About this deal

I love the intertwining of film, books and Hollywood style life in this series, the little references to the Dahlia Lively books that begin each chapter are a lovely touch.

Whilst this follows on from the first book where we are introduced to the Three Dahlia’s this can be easily read as a standalone murder mystery novel.Maybe that's why I didn't like this one as much as the first, none of the characters stood out to me, not even the Three Dahlias. An affectionate homage to the Golden Age of Detective Fiction and a wry nod to our continuing fascination with it. There is a good deal of discussion round the table about whether the director, Anton, is planning to change the identity of the murderer in this new production and whether he is actually entitled to do that.

This was a fabulous read and just my cup of tea - a classic Christie style book with a modern feel and a plot that throws red herrings at you and keeps you guessing to the end. The relationships between the three women is one of the best elements of this series and it was great seeing Posy coming into her own as the latest Dahlia.I love the intergenerational play between the disgraced former child star with the social media experience, the middle-aged woman who doesn't seem to exist and the slightly tainted national treasure. Not only did I enjoy spending time with these characters again but I loved the respect that Watson has for the genre. However when a member of the cast is murdered the Three Dahlias are needed to work together to solve the mystery. I also love the way the plot echoes those classic golden age themes, here the isolated community with secrets.
