About this deal

That said, there was no evidence of water penetration and the overall construction is of a very acceptable standard. I am 5ft 2inches and can crouch well, but found it uncomfortable to sit upright whilst sitting out a rainstorm. If you swap out the awful steel pegs for lighter alloy ones, it brings the total weight on mine to 2. Just came back from a trip to the Lake District with Gail force winds and horrendous rain, each of my friends had a nightmare in there tents whilst mine was gone dry!

The sewn in groundsheet is very sturdy, far more so than my other tents all of which cost a lot more and all of which require an extra groundsheet weighing 300g (ish). It's exceptionally easy to put up although getting the flysheet tight and keeping it clear of the inner compartment requires that (a) you don't peg it too tight at the base of the poles and (b) you get the guys halfway up the poles really, really tight.

The instructions, by the way, are stitched inside the carry bag and printed on waterproof material, so you won't loose them and they won't turn to mush when it rains. I don't bother separating the inner from outer when I pack it away clean, which works great if you need to erect it fast. That said, this was a mild July night and I was using the tent solo, so I cannot comment as to the outcome if those variables had been significantly different.

This tent has many uses; cycle touring, backpacking, festivals, scouts/guides, back garden/yard adventures or anything for people needing to travel light. One feature I love is the ability to raise the outser shell before the inner, this means you can pitch this tent in the rain without too much fuss. Yes it is lightweight although if you are ready to spend much more money You can fund much lighter tents. I would suggest this as a 'starter' tent suitable for low level summer camping, (great for the younger ones). this put with the possible 5-10 minute set up (after you know what to do for subsequent pitching) it's reasonable for a budget backpacking weekend, where you don't want to either spend a fortune for a great tent and/or spend half your day erecting and dismantling your living quarters. With a lightweight design however, doesn’t come a loss in performance, the Backpacker Tent is designed to be taken to the extreme, with a hydrostatic head of 2000mm, the tent is more than equipped to tackle the downpours the UK experiences in all seasons.
