About this deal

Still, there is much separating even this book from the three brilliant masterpieces of the Great Dune Trilogy.

The other reason, I must admit, is that I find the character of Duncan Idaho, or more precisely the Duncan Idaho gholas which populate these books, fascinating.

The fifth novel of the Dune series takes place 1,500 years after the events of "God Emperor of Dune". My understanding is that Herbert originally meant for Heretics of Dune to be the first part of a trilogy.

By crushing the aspirations of humans for over three thousand years, Leto caused the Scattering, an explosion of humanity into the rest of the universe upon his death.

The last two Dune books have a kind of crystalline beauty about them, although they can seem rather difficult and austere at first. If you do not have the intellect to appreciate the philosophical value of this book, then yeah, you are not going to enjoy this book. Moreover, in the final book, there is a more detailed analysis of power, government and Bene Gesserit. That means that poor Paul's son has a trapped consciousness inside these gigantic monstrosities after having lived for 5k years. The Honored Matres attack Rakis, destroying the planet and the sandworms — except for the one the Bene Gesserit escape with.
