About this deal

You and the Automa can’t impact it either, it’s just there to remove loot (and make it less likely for you to get what you want). Playing a high-number card might mean you go last in the day phase, but hey, look, the train doors are opening, and you can get off first.

For example, an arrow pointing left with the numerical value of three stipulates that she will play the third card from the left of her tableau. If you already bought sleeves for the smaller size, please let me know and I’ll personally send you a reimbursement. I say joint first, I won on the tiebreak but you have to give some false hope to new players, right? The Automa will activate any special abilities associated with her crew card, whereas the Pilferer does nothing as a result of his half of the card only depicting a numerical value. Stars – With top-notch production values and straightforward mechanics, Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest is an outstanding game with loads of replayability. As it transpired, it’s a favourite of Stonemaier game’s Jamey Stegmaier, who has now bought the considerable might of his publishing house to issue a new edition. Finally night actions are activated, these may be found on recruited characters on each player’s ship in front of them. The bright colors feel so adventurous to me, but the new style doesn’t really seem to float my local game group’s boat so hopefully I’ll get the chance to play this at a convention or board game cafe.

The reputation tokens are less fancy but equally colorful, and the score dials are shaped like treasure chests, which is an excellent touch. I’ll add that the agreement between Britain and the EU to temporarily have no mutual import fees expired on the 1st of January this year. It’s an exciting mix of simplicity and complicated decision-making that makes the game fun during the action selection phase. In a game filled to the brim with colourful illustrations and graphical flourishes (even the cardboard money tokens are nice), having plain hexagonal wooden blocks just sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the components. If you like Mission: Red Planet, Broom Service, and other hand-management games, we think you will enjoy sneakily managing your crew in Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest! I personally prefer the original’s photorealistic character art by Ben Carre and Stephane Gantiez, but Lamaro Smith’s fantasy artwork here is also exceptional. This includes setting out loot tokens, gaining doubloons based on their location on the reputation track, and adding more character cards to their hands. The original Libertalia board game was published 10 years ago (2012) and now there’s a new ship on the seas (or in the sky – as is the case with the new theme).
