About this deal

I also loved how open and honest she was with the harder side of football, and the harder side of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Anyone reading this review who isn’t from England might not realise how captivated we were as a country by the 2022 European Championships. You only have to look on social media to see the nonsense these young women have to put up with just because they want to play football. Since this book came out, Beth has been voted Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 - quite rightly, in my opinion. I feel like I learnt a lot about professional football and what it entails and it has only increased my respect for professional footballers.

I’m a huge Gooner (unofficially crowned as the biggest Gooner at Northville High School) but I’ve really only paid attention to the men’s game. From being placed in the local boys' team as a child because her mum wanted her to run off her boundless energy to joining Middlesbrough FC's Centre of Excellence and making her professional debut at Sunderland, Beth and women's football have come a long way. Beth Mead and Leah Williamson captured my attention in that final, because a) they are world-class footballers and b) I knew they played for Arsenal.Beth Mead was the standout player from the England team, although to read her story you will be struck by just how humble she is. Reading Beth’s experiences it can be easy to forget how young she is, and it can make you sigh with disappointment to think that it wasn’t the 70s when she was faced with sexism, segregation, and bigotry. I remember the days of, football is for boys, you can't play with us and I am pleased to see that sport is moving in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go. Her story, from growing up in a small village in North Yorkshire to becoming an international player is both inspiring and just very cool.

Unlike some memoirs, at no point did I feel like I was waiting to get to a more interesting bit, not one part felt drawn out. This helps to shed light on the difficulties so many of our top players have faced to make it to where they are now in football. I rewatched some of those moments again having read her perspective and was amazed all over again that England won the Euros.this book put me through the motions, to be able to relive the euros again made me so happy, but reading about june made me so sad, but honestly if your a woso fan, read this book. It was so fascinating to revisit the Euros but from Beth’s perspective, finding out what exactly was going on in the background of the very games I watched on TV.

Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers, a Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or.I will admit I am not a football fan (male or female teams), but living and growing up in London, it is impossible to do or not take notice when England is playing. I felt like I was having a conversation with Beth and she was just telling me her story sitting next to me. It wasn’t until the Lionesses started winning in the Euros that I started watching their training and interviews on YouTube - something that I do regularly with the men even though they share the “England” channel. She was the top goalscorer in the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, which saw England crowned champions - their first international trophy since the 1966 Men's FIFA World Cup. Success at the Euros has significantly increased the profile of women's football and female sport generally, which can only be a good thing.
