About this deal

The characters Niamh interacts with, all have warmth and by the end of the book, personally felt like they were my friends. I trusted them, I loved them, I adored them, but should I have trusted all of them? The concept of a group of teens being invited to a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater type event was a great idea but the execution was just not there. Everyone keeps comparing this to the infamous I Know What You Did Last Summer movie but this read more like a really bad generic C-list movie rip off of. I had to reread a paragraph multiple times because they say Ruby lets Dollface die, and it sounds like she actually murders the girl, while in fact she just throws the mask in the fire, letting the character disappear and letting Brianna run free. But it is written SO BAD. After that, I think Ruby tells that she murdered her dad as well (no loss, rapists are good just when slaughtered, but exactly how did she drag him out of her window and buried him????), and she and two others walk away laughing and all happy. I mean, they just burned a guy alive without the blink of an eye (still he was a pig so I am glad he perished), but show no trauma from the hell of a night they spent. They just laugh and think about getting hot chocolate or something similar. YIKES. In this book we meet Niamh, a girl who is very eager to have the summer of her life. Doing a drama course. Do volunteerstuff for the course. Make friends. Walk around elegant London. But things go sour from the start when the girl who gets her room (apparently the girl had a fear for heights) gets murdered and Niamh finds her. And from that moment there were some quiet moments, but for most it was just a rollercoaster. Because creepy things happen left and right and it seems that Niamh is cursed. I was totally invested in the story. Was Niamh the link? Was Niamh cursed? Was something else spooky going on? I just wanted to hug this girl so badly throughout the story. Because at school most people are avoiding her due to what is happening around her. And then there is the whole creepy person who is stalking her and other girls. Given the type of novel that "This Lie Will Kill You" is, if the writing were its only issue it could pass with a 2.5/5 star review for me. A solid "meh". It's fine. It served its purpose. Unfortunately, the rest of the book is kind of a mess as well.

Real scholarships don’t make you compete,” Juniper insisted. “Not like this. Not at a murder mystery dinner.” I knew nothing about this other than it was a murder mystery that promised to have great twists and turns Well, I’m still waiting for all of that to happen because they sure were not in this book. Junebug!” Mrs. Torres appeared in the doorway, her face flushed from standing over the stove. “Breakfast, mi amor. What is that?” Last One to Die by Cynthia Murphy is the first book I read this year, and my first 5 star as well. I am now confident that 2021 won’t be that bad. I knew I was going to enjoy it, I just didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. Huge thank you yo Kaleidoscope Tours and Scholastic Press, for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for my review. But that last part… I am sorry, so far the book was fantastic, awesome, WOW, but then you decided to add the little sister in the mix? While SHE FREAKING KNEW that things just weren’t going right? What is up with that? It just didn’t make sense, it was dumb. I am sorry. But I would have rather seen our trio fix things instead of this. Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children’s/Delacorte Press for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions. This Lie Will Kill You is a fiction mystery thriller where 5 teens are lured to a mansion with the promise of winning a scholarship. Junebug, she’s my kid.” Her mother disappeared into the hallway, and Juniper followed close behind, plotting to retrieve the invitation. “Believe it or not, I like spending time with my kids.”

Much like Riverdale, the story is exaggerated in a way that makes some parts completely unrealistic, but that doesn’t bother me as it is a fiction book. So she did. Out of the olive Victorian she went, into the white, winter world. Overnight, the yard had been transformed. Icicles dangled from the oaks, threatening to impale Juniper as she passed beneath them. And at the end of the yard, the snow-frosted mailbox stood out like a sore thumb. Brett was the only character I liked, and that was mainly because even though he was a bully he seemed to have genuine emotions.I am happy that the author told us how Niamh was pronounced. I am sorry, but I just don’t know any Irish people. And I live in Dutch-speaking country. XD I was already prepared to google it and see what was up, but I am happy I didn’t have to do that.
